Explain what you’re saving up for. Guests feel a lot more comfortable giving cash when they know it is going towards something meaningful, so whatever it is--a honeymoon, a down payment, your student loans--are the details with your guests. Include other, more traditional gifts on your registry. There are certain guests that will always choose to give something from an actual store, so why not at least make sure it’s something you like?
BUT if you really want to promote your cash gift fund, keep the registry small so people will understand that cash is the best way to go.
