All the latest registries are Cashing In

At MyRegistry.com, it’s our job to keep you up to date on all the latest trends in weddings and, specifically, bridal registries. So here’s a little mid-wedding-season update: Cash Gifts are in.
Newspapers, blogs, and forums alike have all picked up on the cash gift trend and we’ve seen a flurry of articles and posts discussing cash gift registries. Even  the famed manners experts at the Emily Post Institute are on board. Although it was once considered taboo, Peggy Post confirmed The New York Times that these days “it’s totally O.K. to give and receive money as a wedding gift.”

If you’re not already using MyRegistry’s Cash Gift Fund service, click here to get started. And if you’re one of the almost 80% of MyRegistry brides that is already registered for cash, check out our helpful hints below for advice on how best to handle your cash gift fund.

Explain what you’re saving up for. Guests feel a lot more comfortable giving cash when they know it is going towards something meaningful, so whatever it is--a honeymoon, a down payment, your student loans--are the details with your guests.

Include other, more traditional gifts on your registry. There are certain guests that will always choose to give something from an actual store, so why not at least make sure it’s something you like?

BUT if you  really want to promote your cash gift fund, keep the registry small so people will understand that cash is the best way to go.

Happy registering!
