Check out this article on how technology and social media has changed the wedding industry... it covers everything from the bride who used her iPhone to change her Facebook status from single to married mid-ceremony (pictured above) to the virtual bridesmaid who was "walked" down the aisle by a groomsman using Skype and an iPad. "Social media, mobile tools and online vendors are abundant to offer the happy couple extra fun, savings and convenience," says the Associated Press article exploring this topic. Yesterday we explained why your Flower Girl is one of the easiest-to-dress people in your wedding. Now we’re wrapping up MyRegistry.com’s Bridal Party Week with her not-so-simple counterpart: the Ring Bear. You will learn that a little boy is harder to handle than a girl because no matter what you put him in, it is pretty much guaranteed that it will be destroyed by the end of the day. Narrowing Down the Flower Girl Dress Search

Today we’re continuing MyRegistry.com’s Bridal Party Week with one of the easiest-to-dress members of your bridal party… the Flower Girl! Why so easy, you ask? First of all, we’re betting whatever little girl you’ve invited to participate will look adorable no matter what she’s wearing--little girls are like that. Secondly, she is probably too young to have strongly developed opinions about what she’s wearing (unlike Bridesmaid-zilla #3) so she is going to feel like a princess in whatever dress you choose for her. And finally, there are So. Freaking. Many. adorable AND affordable dresses for little girls out there! The hardest part will be narrowing down your options--we've listed a few of our favorites here to get you started!

Although etiquitte is changing, the flower girl is the only other person in the wedding (besides the bride, of course!) that has traditionally been allowed to wear white. This creates a lovely visual connection between you and your flower girl and is a sweet idea, especially if you two are super close. Registry Inspiration: How I Met Your Mother

Sometimes when it’s a slow week in wedding news we have to get a little creative. So this week we’ve put together a list of awesome registry recommendations inspired by one of our absolute favorite TV shows, CBS’s How I Met Your Mother. And hey, the whole show is leading towards Ted’s mystery bride; we saw Lily and Marshall’s wedding at the end of Season 2; and we found out at the end of Season 6 (Spoiler Alert if you haven’t seen it!) that even Barney is going to tie the knot… so featuring the show in our wedding blog isn’t too much of a stretch! If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll love the connections, but if you’re not (well, first of all, shame on you because it rocks!), you’ll still appreciate these fab products!

Making a Soldier’s Wish {List} Come True

Deployed soldiers across the world miss their families, friends, and the simple comforts of home. Lieutenant Colonel Robert Davis of the 101st Sustainment Brigade missed flying remote control planes with his three sons back in Fort Campbell, KY. Being on the other side of the world away from friends and family was hard enough, but try finding a hobby shop in Afghanistan that caters to the tastes of US soldiers! Luckily, with MyRegistry.com, soldiers like Lieutenant Colonel Davis are able to build a wish list with products from any store in the world--even when they’re stuck in the middle of the desert.

Lieutenant Colonel Davis used MyRegistry.com to add planes, transmitters, chargers, and other accessories from stores like Hobby Lobby and Amazon.com to his wish list. In just a month, over 50% of the items Davis had wished for were purchased and shipped to him in Afghanistan, including a plane like the ones he’d flown with his sons. “It was like Christmas for everyone,” wrote Davis. “Funny how we all so easily go back to being little kids. I took it straight to the dining hall to show everyone as they were grabbing lunch. The guys couldn't believe it and we started taking bets on who would be the quickest to start the engine with the chicken stick.”

On December 17th, 2010 Davis posted a request on a chat forum, RC Universe, with the title “Need Your Help- Deployed Soldier looking for any information on a possible RC donation site.” Davis came to the forum looking for information on an organization that would be willing to send RC planes and parts to Davis and his fellow soldiers. What he found was an outpouring of support.
Davis posted the link to his MyRegistry.com wish list on the chat forum and instantly items were being purchased and shipped to him. MyRegistry.com allowed Davis and his brigade to specify exact items they wanted, right down to the model numbers. But that is just one brigade’s story.
